Luncheon Honors Weber Hardin Elementary School Faculty and Staff

Dr. Maria Rodriguez-Casas and the Board of School Trustees honored the Weber Hardin Elementary School faculty and staff with a surprise luncheon at Santiago’s on Wednesday, August 20. Weber Hardin Elementary School earned a “Recognized” rating from TEA for the fifth year. Dr. Rodriguez-Casas thanked the faculty and staff for their hard work and diligence in emphasizing reading at Weber Hardin and for preparing their students so well for TAKS. She reminded them that they were a role model for the other campuses. Weber Hardin faculty and staff believe that education is a pre-Kindergarten through associate degree endeavor, and that teamwork within, and among, schools will help all students succeed.

Board of School Trustee members Scott Mengers, president, Leroy Barrera, vice-president, and Michael Gray, secretary, thanked the teachers for their dedication to their students. The third grade teachers had the honor of cutting the maroon and white cake decorated with a large number five—to celebrate the school’s fifth year of achievement.



David Stevenson Attends Colorado College on Scholarship

2008 Mathis High School graduate David Stevenson is attending Colorado Community College in Rangley, Colorado. David has an athletic scholarship to play baseball. He will study Aviation Technology, and will train for his commercial pilot’s license. David was a member of the All-District First Team INF and was MVP of District 30AAA. His photograph was featured on the cover of Texas High School Magazine last year.

2008 Mathis High School graduates Victor Alvarado, and John David Pinon signed baseball scholarships at the Mathis ISD administration building on Thursday, August 21. They will attend Huston-Tillotson University in Austin. They left for Austin on Saturday, August 23 to move into their dorms, and attend freshman orientation.



THE MATHIS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE. THE DISTRICT'S TAX RATE FOR YEAR 2008 WILL BE $1.35 PER $100 OF PROPERTY VALUE. THIS RATE CONSISTS OF $1.17 FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS AND $0.18 FOR THE DEBT SERVICE FUND.
